"In Texas and many other states, patched exhaust components will not pass inspection. Not because of the emmisions test, but because of the visual safety inspection. So if you plan on using this or any other compound, or a combination of repair tape and any compound, take the exhaust component off the vehicle first and take your time to make it look good. Speaking as a mechanic: if you are working with a low budget for a do-it yourself repair there are 3 things that will help you; repair compound and repair tape(use from the inside), sanding it all smooth, painting over it all with high-heat paint. I say this because, as an Inspector, I have to fail vehicles with patched exhausts, but if I can't tell were exactly the patch is, I will pass the vehicle. Chances are if it looks good, it functions good.
So MAKE IT LOOK GOOD
