"Over 2 years ago i coated the floor of my 17 foot fiberglass boat with the gray herculiner. It has held up amazingly well as it has been in the saltwater every week without being washed out and gas from the tanks in the boat that spilled onto it didnt even hurt the finish. It has sealed up every tiny crack and screw hole that was in the floor of my boat so no matter how much water gets dumped into the boat none leaks down into the hull. This winter i am recoating the floor just to make it thicker and go over some areas i didnt do originally but if i wanted to i could easily go another year or two without recoating. ITS A GREAT PRODUCT !!!!!!"

This stuff works, but prep is important.,
June 30, 2006
By CADManfrom Covington, OH
"I purchased Herculiner (black) for my 1999 Chevrolet K1500 short bed pickup. I had a dealer installed drop in liner for years, but it was rubbing the paint down to bare metal.
I researched Herculiner compared to the "national brands". Chemically and performance-wise, they are similar, and since we are do-it-yourselfers with our JCW products, I made my purchase.
As the title says, prep is important for lasting results. Make sure your bed is clean and properly scuffed with the Scotch-Brite pad (you'll need a few extra). You know you are done when there is no shine left on the paint. If you're not sure, scuff some more. After prepping the surface, I hosed the bed out with water, let it dry in the sun and then wiped it down well with solvent (I used Xylol). You will want a pair of decent quality, chemical resistant, protective gloves. I had a box of regular latex surgical gloves which don't last. The Xylol weakens them in minutes and I was constantly changing them. TIP: Don't buy a gallon of the solvent, buy only a quart. Lastly, I taped off the areas of the bed and tailgate where I wanted the Herculiner to stop. I used the blue, low-tack tape used for indoor painting.
To mix the Herculiner, I bought a cheap ($3.00) drill mixer attachment that I discarded after I was finished. The important part is to keep the rubber particles in suspension for smooth, even results. Use the included flat brush to coat the corners, seams, and anyplace else that is tight. Then use the roller to coat the rest. I let the first coat dry overnight, then applied a second coat (all from the same gallon). I suppose you could go thicker, but build it up in thin layers. During the entire prep and application, make sure you have adequate ventilation.
I've had this liner for almost two years with no regrets. I saved hundreds in cost and enjoyed the time working on my truck. Herculiner has more "bite" than the shop-applied national brands. It appears to have more/bigger rubber particles. Therefore, the finish is rougher. I think the performance is comparable based on talks with my truck-owning friends who opted for the shop-applied method.
As a side note, I bought an extra quart of Herculiner for touch-ups (needed only once) and for use on mower ramps and garage steps. GREAT PRODUCT."

Does the job,
June 4, 2009
By Davidofrom Bellevue, WA
Pros: Apply yourself by brush/roller Cons: Your knees will become tired
"My truck bed has had a Herculiner roll-on liner for over 6 months now. It looks great when you first put it on. Just don't rush it and be sure to stir it up frequently so you don't get clumps of the rubber material. Also, prep like you've never prepped that truck bed before you even think of laying down the Herculiner. The little scotch pad it came with was a joke to me. I got out the power tools and went at it - and it's still very well attached. I can put a pressure washer at it point blank range and it does nothing - more than I can say for others I've seen.
After 6 months it has faded quite a bit. It's more of a dark gray, and flat (no shine.) I hear that you can apply some kind of UV protector that will reshine it up. For me, I didn't care about the finish as long as it hid the paint. The truck bed before the Herculiner looked like a 17 year old truck bed. After, it's all nice and the same color with hidden scratches. I also used a rubber bed mat so that you don't tear up raw feet on the truck.
It does what it claims. It's a cheap substitute to more expensive spray-in liners (that still fade last I checked). It ends up being a thinner coat, but works great for gentle use of the bed. And if your bed is well beaten, it is hard to justify shelling out $500+ when you really should be looking for a new truck bed."

Very Good Bedliner,
May 4, 2009
By JustinDfrom Lakeland, FL
Pros: Thickness and Texture/Quality Cons: Surface Preparation
"I purchased the kit that included a gallon of the coating itself along with two texured application rollers and an abrasive pad to prepare the truck bed surfaces. Surface preparation was a bit time consuming but was well worth it when finished. The coating dries to a nice and thick/durable coating that greatly enhances the look and function of the truck bed. The coating has to be mixed every few minutes with a drill mixer to ensure the rubber pieces stay suspended. The gallon of coating was more tan enough to coat the entire bed and taligate section of my 2001 Dodge Dakota 6 1/2 foot bed."

Pros: one fourth the price of a professional job Cons: none at this time
"This is easy to put on. I would recommend using a medium grit sanding sponge to rough up the paint. Just read and follow the directions and you will be amazed by it. All my friends are jealous of the money I saved."

Pros: Added MPG's and a few HP's! Cons: None
"I have a 97 Dakota with the 318 V8 and it was getting about 13 average MPGs. After installed (which only took about 1/2 an hour) noticed an increase of 2-3 MPGs and it has a little more pep in acceleration too. Great buy!"

By Jeepster97from Weatherford Texas
Pros: huge savings over spray in liner Cons: be carefull a little messy
"I followed the advise of another review and bought a paint stirrer for my drill motor. Kept particles suspended well. I used grey on the tub of my 97 Jeep Wrangler. turned out pretty good. Spend some time your prep work and masking off your edges good, it makes a big difference.Buy extra RED scotchbright pads,I used three. I did three coats and had a quarter of a gallon left over.My kid did his skateboard deck with it."

Awesome Product,
July 7, 2008
By Japaneseminifrom Tulsa, OK
Pros: Saves money! Cons: Can get a little messy.
"I'm very excited about the Herculiner I just put on my Japanese Mini Truck. I wanted the bed lined, but didn't want to pay a lot of money for a liner in a truck that is just a play thing used for errands and trips to Home Depot. I am extremely surprised how well the do-it-yourself kit looks! I bought the sealant for added protection. I rated this item 4 stars, only because I yet to experience how well it wears, otherwise I would have given 5 stars. I almost ran out of the product, but had just enough to finish the job. The entire time I was using it, I kept asking myself how could this one can possibly be enough for a full-sized truck. Mini truck beds are about 6' by 4' and have very short sides and tail gate. Overall, I am very happy with HERCULINER and I am looking forward to see how well the product lasts!"

Herculiner Roll-on PU Bedliner,
May 11, 2008
By DIYguyinFLfrom Daytona Beach, FL
Pros: Economical, the kit give you most of what you need. Cons: Difficult to prevent clumping of the rubber particals
"I was extremely pleased with the end result. I toyed with the idea of doing this project myself for a couple of years, then when a new truck accessory shop moved into town I priced a spray-in job. The quote was $485.00 for a 2000 GMC Sonoma 6ft bed. My mind was made up then on the Herculiner. Preparation was by far the most work of the entire project , it took two more scotchbright pads than supplied in the kit to get the job done. The product goes on easily and covers beautifully. The only problem I had with it was some trouble keeping the rubber particles from clumping on the second coat. I would recommend this to anyone. For best results, you have to do this project all at once, so plan on a long day."

Herculiner works great, if prepped properly,
May 8, 2008
By PCJeep
Pros: Good coverage, durable finish Cons: Smell takes several days to dissipate
"I removed the carpet and applied Herculiner to the tub of my Jeep Wrangler. I took my time and did the proper preparation including: thorough cleaning, roughing up with two scotch bright pads, getting some hard to reach places with a wire brush on my drill, and then final prep with xylene. Since I did the tub, I used three coats and still had about 1 quart left over. If you use this in a Jeep or any other interior do yourself a favor and take the top off and don't plan on driving it for a couple of days so the Herculiner can cure and dissipate the odor. This is one of the best do-it-yourself products I have ever used."

Herculiner,
November 27, 2007
By roadrashfrom Littleton, CO
Pros: Fairly durable, inexpensive Cons: Not as thick as the commercial stuff
"Follow the directions and it should last a long time. It is not nearly as thick as the spray on stuff you pay $500 for. The gallon and extra quart for my long bed, is almost not enough. I had to thin out and scrape what was left on the sides of the cans, to get enough to finish the job. I helped a friend move some things. One thing being a front axle from a K5 Blazer. It scraped through the liner to the bare metal. Like I said, It's not as thick as I think it should be. But it is still pretty strong. Worth the money, if you don't frequently load big heavy things all the time like an axle."

"I have just finished applying my brush on bed liner. It was really easy to do. The application instructions were easy to follow. I would just put i different scouring pad with the kit. The one included in the kit wore out really fast. I had to go buy a new one which wasnt bad. I would aslo add in the instuctions to take your time scouring the finish on the bed. The better it is will result in a better finish product. I am very pleased and satisfied with the finished product."

"Being in the military takes you to all types of environments. I applied Herculiner to my '99 Dakota in 1999. I have been stationed in the bitter -40* weather of upstate NY, the salty air of Hawaii and the searing heat of El Paso, TX. The Herculiner is showing some signs of wear and degradation, but for what I've put it through I'm still very satisfied. I love it because the rubber bits keep my tool box, etc from sliding around in the truck. Other more expensive brands do not have the traction that this product does. When I applied it to my tailgate, I wrapped it around the top edge so a ladder will not slide when layed across the closed tailgate. I liked the stuff so much that I taped of the center of my rear bumper step and both door sills. This allowed me to stand in the door to tie off a load or wash the roof without slipping on the slippery surface. You can bet when I buy a trailer for my motorcycles that it too will be coated with Herculiner!! You will not be disappointed with Herculiner."

"I used black Herculiner on my 2006 short bed Dodge Ram. I agree with the reviewer from Covington OH- Proper prep is 90% of the job. After three hours hand scuffing the paint I still wasn't satisfied, so I went over it again with a Scotchbrite paint stripper wheel on a drill using a VERY light touch. This worked very well, but be careful! The rest of the job was per instructions. I also bought a fifth quart, and used a little of it to finsh the second coat on the tailgate and to reenforce high wear areas with a third coat.
Appearance is excellent and durability seems to be as good as the spray in liner on my previous truck. It hasn't been through a Fairbanks winter yet, so I'm curious to see how it stands up to 50 below zero."
