Good for the right year(s), April 12, 2009
By Philly2JeepOwner from Philly

Pros: Great sound for the price
Cons: Didn't fit my 2003

"These are and were great back in my 1995. I just got a 2003 and was a little confused because the JC Whitney catalog said they would not fit my 2003, but this website said they would. I pulled one out of the '95 to check and would have to agree with the catalog; these do not fit a 2003. Other than that they're great, just make sure the year is right."

Pros: Rock solid and look sharp
Cons: I had to cut the speaker hole to get the speakers to fit.

"The speakers look great but I had to cut the hole with a dremel tool to get them to fit. I had to use a little elbow grease to get the speakes into the proper place but are a solid fit. I use a Sony Explode CD player with the speakers and they sound great. I have to turn them up just a bit to hear them when I'm driving down the road. I bet with a higher quality speaker they would be just as good as any sound bar."

A lot of work for 97 TJ, August 18, 2008

Pros: Sound Great
Cons: Very hard to Install

"I have a 97 TJ with a hard top, and the wiring for the brakes/turn signals, rear wiper, and washer fluid plumbing run being the roll bar on the driver side and the speaker box will not clear without running the wiring in front of the roll bar (this means disconnecting all the wiring and rerouting it, unless you want to cut it). The boxes are supplied with one screw to hold them into place per box, but the screw goes in the bottom and the top is allowed to move around, I had to put a second screw in by drilling a hole in the tab that holds the role bar and put a screw into the top(not supplied and not in the instructions). The driver side fit good after the rewiring, however the passenger side did not fit so well there was a gap between the carpet and the speaker box and I had to fill it in with padding that I put in under the carpet to make it look good. I bought 6 1/2 pioneer speakers and the hole was almost too big, make sure the speakers bought have a mounting capability of 6 1/2 and GM 6 3/4."

"I have a '93 Wrangler YJ.

The 6x9" speaker boxes drop in like a charm. Which is good and bad. They are great if you want to pull them out. They are bad if you are in a high crime area or are hitting some rough off-road trails. The simple fix here is to drill a couple holes in the back of the box so you can tie or clamp them to the bottom of the rollbar. That way they are snug when they need to be and can be popped out when YOU want.

The only other comment I have is if the speakers you are wanting to put in sit very deep (ie, over 3-3/8" deep), you may want to get a speaker mounting extension as a number of speakers will sit a little shallow in this box.

These are a wonderful alternative to the sound / speaker bars that mount on top of the roll bar. These boxes are tucked away so nice and neat. And you get 2 cup holders. Can't beat that! :)

All-in-all, you won't find a better set of speaker boxes for a Jeep!
