Pros: Out of the way... Cons: The only way...
"I've suffered with the stock AM Radio with its single dash mounted speaker for a few years and I was desperate to be able to use my Zune's Line-Out and my Blackberry's Line-Out features in my 1969 Ford F-250 Camper Special ("Billy"). I was so leary of wreaking havoc on the pristine interior of my "Billy" until I came across this speaker system. I was intrigued at the harmonious possibilities and could not wait to have it arrive, just before Christmas no less.
The packaging was perfect and very professional. Each component: Left Speaker, Right Speaker, Square tubes, Center Pad - were all individually protected and in their own boxes. The instructions are minimal, but it is such a self-explanatory assembly that they are hardly necessary.
I took the pieces out of their packaging and laid them on the tailgate. I then "dry-fitted" the pieces together to make sure everything would align before I attempted to slip the unit into the chrome belt-line that trims the interior of my truck's cab. All was fine, until... I measured the interior span that I was going to place the unit into - the speaker system was 9 inches short at its maximum stretch! What to do now?!
Each speaker bank is 20 inches total length which includes a 2 inch tab to slip into whatever channel you choose to support that end. The supplied 3/8" square tubes are 14.5" in length and need about 1.5" at each end to be secured into the speaker bank. I needed 60 inches, yet the system only gave me 54 at its max. So, off to Home Depot...
My first thought was to buy longer 3/8" square tubing, but the smallest I could find was 1/2" - no good. I then bought two 24" pieces of threaded 3/8" rod ($5 total, inc tax). I cut each rod at 3", then another 3". I then cut the square tube in half and screwed a 3" piece of threaded rod all the way into one end of each square tube. The 18" piece of threaded rod was then screwed all the way into the middle of the 2 square tubes - voila! The 3" ends give support for the set screws in each speaker unit and the 18" piece in the middle provides plenty of support for the bridge; any extra weight is negligible since the threaded rod is made from a fairly light steel. The supplied Pad is allowed to fit over the square tubing as it is designed to be a friction fit and, because the tubing is polished, the exposed extra doesn't look half bad. The rods also allow for minor adjustments if you want to tweak the assembly without taking the whole thing apart. I had originally thought I would need a set screw of some sort to fix the square tube to the threaded rod, but it was not necessary.
This project was so easy - one person can do it without a scratch to the unit, the vehicle, or your own person! I have a very simple cassette receiver mounted under the dash and it has a line-out jack. I think it was under $30 about 5 years ago. I use a m/m cable to connect my music devises to the receiver and the speakers sound G-R-E-A-T! Enjoy!"

Pros: additional mounts for speakers Cons: doesn't fit in a soft top, poor quality speakers
"The mounting doesn't fit if you have a soft top... I was pretty disappointed because it didn't let me know. The speakers aren't top notch but if you don't listen to loud music then you'll be ok. If not, the speakers are easy to replace."

"INSTALL IN 1983 ELCAMINO. THE TWO RODS THAT COME WITH UNIT TO HOLD UP SPEAKER ARE OK, IF THE ROOF OF YOUR CAR OR TRUCK IS FLAT. AFTER YOU SCREW IN THE TWO BARS THERE IS A SPACE.I HAD TO MAKE UP A BRACE WITH A CURVE TO MAKE IT FIT BETTER, I LIKE THE LOOK OF THE UNIT ONCE UP"
