Travel trunk with lumbar support added
Pros: Spacious, easy to install, sturdy, inexpensive
"Bought this several years ago for my BMW F650gs. Works great in all types of riding, street and off-road -- never had an issue. (My bike is the Enduro). It easily sat on the Happy-Trails rack that fit my bike perfectly. My Schuberth Concept helmet fits fine. Have used it to carry water bottles surrounded in ice. Nice to have in the Texas heat. I have a black leather lumbar support I can strap to it when I drive 2-up. I am very happy with it and the cost was much less than the BMW brand. Highly recommended!!!"

Pros: Looks decent and modified easily. Cons: For a few production bucks more the Factory could have had a winner.
"....if you're not expecting a lot for your money you won't be disappointed. I expected the mounting hardware problem (from reviews) and a possible weak latch. What I didn't expect was to find the broken latch in the bottom of the shipping box. The box itself was sealed in a plastic bag; the latch wasn't. So much for quality control at the Factory. Luckily I work for a metal fabrication shop. Rather than return the box for an exchange (and get the same weak latch back) I fabricated one from stainless steel plate. Problem solved. I was looking to just fill a 'need' with this one and it does that quite well. I added running lights with a quick disconnect and reflective tape. It looks good on the back of my 1978 Honda CB400T. If you're not 'handy' then pass on this one. If you are then you'll be okay. The Free Shipping made the deal for me; without it this box isn't worth it though."

Pros: Spacious, easy to remove and carry Cons: Plastic latch not the best choice
"This is a replacement purchase. I had one and it came off while riding over a rather rough stretch of pavement. The case was empty at the time. It is *possible* that I did not have it properly latched to the base but I think it popped off due to all heavy vibrations of the road which was torn up for construction. It would be nice if they would use metal for the latch instead of plastic. With this unit I intend to drill a hole in the middle of bottom of the case and use an additional bolt and washer under the base to secure them together. I'll simply use a split washer and a wingnut so that it is still quick and easy to remove. This will ensure that it doesn't come off on a ride again. I would also add a thin (1/4") layer of dense foam or something in between your rack and the plastic base to avoid any noise or scuffing. Aside from that it is essentially a nice, simple but spacious trunk. It will hold a fair amount of stuff and is easy to carry. There is a reflector on the rear. I added some black reflective tape as well to increase visibility at night. I rate the appearance a 3. It is not a knock on the product. There is nothing wrong about it or exceptional."

Pros: Perfect size, easy to install / remove Cons: Wrong type of screws included
"This trunk not only fits perfectly but also looks very complimentary on vintage Japanese bikes. The only issue is the hardware. As previously mentioned by other reviewers, a quick stop to your local hardware store to pick up countersunk screws (to replace the ill fitting pan head screws) and you'll be good to go with this trunk. An overall excellent trunk for the price!"

Pros: Value, Size, nearly waterproof. Cons: Could look Harley-er
"On my Suzuki Boulevard S40 (formerly Savage). I have a pair of these side mounted on saddle bag supports. I just rode 75 miles through a serious downpour, real el nino type stuff, I would never intentionally ride through that type of storm again. I was soaked to the bone, but my books were totally dry, save a couple of droplets on one book. I was very pleased with how well they performed under those circumstances. Not 100% waterproof, but more than sufficient for an average downpour. Since they are removable I can load them, close them up and snap them onto the bike. It is much easier than trying to deal with them while attatched to the bike, especially on rainy days."

Pleanty of room for my needs and very easy to add to luggage rack, realy like the way you can remove it from bike to carry or take with you. Would like to see reflectors strip on side for more visibility at night, like the one on rear of box, other wise very happy. Thanks!"

Pros: Clean Looks and Great Size Cons: Base Plate Fits with Modification
"I recently (07/14) purchased this case for my (06) V-Strom 650. After shopping around I found that this case was the cheapest by far, and retained good size and looks. After having some difficulty getting the base plate mounted the box was attached. The case is very spacious (I put my full-face Arai Profile helmet and my rain gear in it) and holds true to blending in with the bike. The locking system on both the box and too the bike make it even better with walk away confidence. Overall great product for a fraction of the cost of a Givi system."

"My high rating is based on bang for the buck. I know that there is better stuff out there but for this price? Mounting on my KLR was a snap and it's solid with no rattle. The attachment to the base is secure and will stand up to all but the worst abuse. Easy to remove and doesn't come loose when opening. It appeared that one of the previous reviews sounded as tho it did. It has a 1/4" double overlap to seal out moisture that looks pretty effective but haven't tested that yet. This is a no frills, practical piece of motorcycle luggage and for the guy that isn't looking for anything fancy, it works."

"I installed this trunk on my '06 Kawasaki Nomad. It mounted real easy with the provided hardware and the flat back finish looks great, matches the seats very close. I especially liked the numerous mounting points in the base plate. I had to do some dicing around to get the trunk mounted on the rather short carrier behind the back rest. Only complaint I have is the release mechanism is tight, very tight. I have a hard time releasing the trunk from the base but I hope this will ease with use.
All in all, a very good product at a really good price. I would easily recommend this product to anyone looking for a mid size trunk to agument their touring bike."

"Having recently purchased a bike with a custom-made tail bag mounting plate already installed, I was looking for a tail bag to match the plate. (1984 Honda VT500 Ascot.) This tail bag was one of 4 recommended to me (that would work with the existing plate) by the bike's previous owner and was the one he had used. Lightweight yet sturdy, this tail bag is large enough to hold a full face helmet or even a gallon of milk. Easy to install and remove with a nice handle for easy carrying. I really like this tail bag. It is very simple so don't expect anything fancy (or pretty) but it gets the job done!"

"I purchased this product for my 2006 V-Star Classic. It mounted very easily & quickly. After about a month one of the hinge pins fell out so I spent $3.00 for a tab bolt and cotter pin to replace the missing pin. (I actually bought two in preparation for when the other pin vibrates out. Also, it would be nice if you could remove the trunk from the bike without having to unlock the top."

"Which was to have a small trunk as a base for some alternating amber lights to make the rear of my '03 HD ElectraGlide Standard more visible as I take up the rear on PGR Missions. I also bought the alternating flasher module from JCW.
Like the other reviewers, I also bought hardware locally to mount the trunk. I used flat-head machine screws (which the base is countersunk for) and nylon insert locknuts. Why they supply you with round head screws is a mystery.
The case locks to the mount securely, and the latch holds the cover closed well. I carried ten 3'x5' American flags folded inside and thirty aluminum pole sections bungied to the top (really need to figure out some kind of a top rack for those). Even though I had drilled all the holes in it for the lights and wire entry, after 50+ miles in the rain there were no leaks.
It's not as roomy as my HD King Tourpak (didn't want to drill that up!), but not as expensive either, and for day trips or carrying lunch to work I'd say go for it if you think it would look good on your bike. It doesn't look that goofy even on an ElectraGlide! :-)"

"I've got an 83 honda passport that I use for 80% of my day-to-day driving.
The main limitation to it has been that I had to have a back pack and even then I couldn't always carry stuff easily.
I stopped by a vespa shop to look at top boxes / trunks and they all looked very nice but also were really really expensive.
I ordered this, took it out of the box, and within 15 minutes had it mounted to my bike's rear luggage rack.
The mounting hardware wasn't ideal -- the screws weren't flat headed so they stuck out and scratched the bottom of the case and my luggage rack isn't flat and the plastic mounting piece flexed a little. Also, the bolts weren't long enough, the nuts didn't have lock washers, and the brackets weren't quite long enough.
A quick trip to the hardware store for some flat top bolts / screws and some nyloc nuts solved all these problems and 15 minutes later I had it mounted up nicely.
Right now, it's got my 3/4 helmet and riding jacket locked away with the bike.
If I got another bike, this is the first accessory I'd buy for it."

"This trunk was just perfect for my 2004 Honda Rebel. I used heavy duty, 3/8 in. perforated metal strip (which I purchased from a lumber yard) to make my brackets. I could not find anything at the cycle shops, that was as good quality for the price. I have always been very happy with all purchased I have made from J.C. Whitney, over many years. My first purchase was made about 1954 when I purchased a fake dual exhust system for my '48 Studbaker. I would reccomend J.C. Whitney to anyone."

"I have had this little top case for 6 months. I have to admit...I hate the way it looks compared to the other sexy, sleek top-cases that are out there. When you are on the road, versatility becomes the key to everything. At a recent camp out I used this top case as a 12 pack cooler complete with ice....It was water tight...the following morning the showers at this event were all in use...Water tight....hmmmmm....this led me to thinking....so I filled this little top case half full with warm water, found a private spot and used it as a basin to wash up in....I hate to admit it but I am now very fond of this homely little case."

"I fabricated a luggage rack for the back on my 2006 Suzuki DR650 that works well to strap items onto the back of the bike. However, I wanted something to haul loose items from that trip to the store to pick up a few things. or to haul my soft-sided briefcase to work.
I did a dilligent search for a reasonably priced removable trunk for on top of my rack that was roomy, but not huge. If you're looking for something similar - - this is it.
The mounting plate bolted onto my rack with ease, and the trunk popped right in place. The trunk also doubles as a small suitcase when removed from the rack. The construction is adequate, but is good for the overall price. This unit is not painted, but is a satin finished plastic which is good for my Dual Sport bike.
I'd definitely recommend this product because of it's price and utility."

"I've owned this for a few years now and am very pleased with it. It holds a considerable amount of stuff which allows me to do most of my grocery shopping with it. The only thing I don't like is that the latch only works with the key, you cant have the top latched but unlocked which makes it a bit awkward to deal with when you're taking it on and off the bike.
Overall this is a good product."
