You Get What You Pay For, February 20, 2009

Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Poor off-axis brightness, not suitable for angled windows.

"I got this for my winter car, a 1997 Thunderbird, which has a sharply raked rear window. I had been having fogging and icing problems because the defroster element goes above the 3rd brake light, and the inside cover prevents any air circulation there.

The plan was to rip out the stock 3rd brake light, and flush mount the new one up high. But because of the angle of the window and the depth of the enclosure, that option proved unworkable. It would have impeded my view, and although tailgating SUV drivers would see it, most others wouldn't.

The original mount for the stock 3rd brake light on the T-Bird is flat and slightly raised. The bottom of the LED light's case was also flat and level. I found that I could mount the LED 3rd brake light where the old light fixture was, using double-sided foam tape. I still have to use the stock cover, but I moved it 1/2" away from the window for better ventilation. The LED fixture doesn't produce any noticeable glare, even though it's not flush mounted."

Be careful! Be very careful!, October 31, 2008
By Marty999 from New Orleans, LA

Pros: Nice price, nice looking and probably works well
Cons: Advertised to fit a '94 Chevy S10 p/u, but doesn't

"This is a good product (which took a considerable amount of time arriving), but it does
not fit my truck. If you remove the old high mount light, there's too much room on either side of this light to mount it. I should have measured the truck's light opening before I purchased the one I did. Measuring would have helped."

Pros: Reasonably priced;Bright if the angle is right;plenty of connecting wire
Cons: Poor instructions;brightness decreases in angled installations

"The product seems to be well made. It remains to be seen how well the 2-sided tape holds up with northern winters. The brightness is high only if the window is vertical, but drops off rapidly as the angle deviates from vertical. The instructions do not indicate which lead is positive, though I made a good guess that the striped lead is positive. I didn't get the testing for positive on the vehicle, but I know how to use a DVM. The final result does work fairly well, even though my back window is not quite verticaL."

Should work good on clear vertical rear windshield, May 18, 2008

Pros: LEDs have low amp draw and are fast acting
Cons: Limited viewing angle, not bright enough

"I installed this product on my 1988 Ford Bronco II in the rear windshield. I noticed even before I affixed it to the glass with the supplies double stick tape that it was just bright enough for clear glass, though not as bright as I would have liked. As with all LED lights it had a narrow viewing angle that is not adjustable with this model. Being that my truck has factory tinted windows the light is definitely not as bight as it should be. With my near vertical rear windshield the viewing angle is not perfect, but it works. I would recommend this product only if you have a vertical rear windshield that is clear or has an aftermarket tint that can be cut out around the light."

Pros: LED set draws less than one tenth of an amp, black case hides well in the car
Cons: cheap double sided tape on the front of the light

"Installed in the back of a 1969 MGB. Made a fiberglass bracket to hold the light to the rollbar. Once the red doublesided tape was removed from the front of the light it is almost invisible when not turned on. There is about 5ft of wire on the lamp, I was able to wire it into the back brake lights without splicing in more wire.

By my amp meter this light draws less than 1/10 of an amp, great for old brake light switches that burn up easily."
