Pros: Fits great, easy install
Cons: cheap plastic in places

"This lock lasted about 2 and a half years before the lock started to stick due to rust and then the plastic broke that pulled the right tailgate latch. Cheap insurance for me to keep stuff in my bed, in my bed so I will get another. I may pop rivit or epoxy thin metal plates to the new handle for extra sturdiness and I will make sure to WD40 the lock on a monthly basis."

"I have '98 Chevy truck with an open Rhino linered bed (no cap or tonneau cover)and wanted a way to lock the tailgate on my '98 Chevy. With the spray-on liner, I could not install an electric lock, so Pop Lock was the answer to my problem. It's made of steel and very snug fit yet retains full operation of tailgate handle and absolutely no play in the handle when locked! Now I don't have to worry about anyone thinking about removing my tailgate OR dropping the gate and removing the 2 screws that keep my expensive LED tail lights attached."

"The lock i got for my 04 dakota looked nothing like the picture. Dont get me wrong it fit but very cheaply made.I intalled it in less than an hour."

"I purchased this product for my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Megacab. The installation was a snap! My expectation was to make my truck less appealing to thieves than the next guy's. In this respect, the lock works perfectly! I honestly think someone who really wants to steal my tailgate will do so anyway, but this little gem will make them think twice."

"I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. My tail gate was stolen rite off in my driveway. My insurance paid for a new one, but I had to pay a $250.00 deductible. This lock cost me less then $60.00 and it works perfect. I wish I had this on the night my tailgate was stolen. I would not only recommend this to anyone I would even tell them how to get one. If you own a pickup truck and it doesn’t have a locking tail gate you must get this product. It’s very easy to install it took me about 15 minutes to install start to finish, and it looks like it came from the factory after installation not like an after market add-on."

"I installed this on the tailgate of my 2005 Dodge RAM SRT-10 Quad Cab and it's really easy as two prongs snap into slots behind the lifted handle, and then it is kept from moving by 3M trim tape. I didn't used to think I would ever use "tape" to install anything, but now I prefer it as there is no drilling, and theoretically I could remove the item, although the tape is so strong it will probably ruin the item getting it off, unless you use a string saw but then that would probably scratch the paint. I always clean the surface first with alcohol, dry off all the alcohol with a rag, and then put 3M adhesive promoter on the surface before applying the item, so maybe that's why my items are "on for good". In this case, I had to remove it to install a chrome cover over the tailgate handle, and even though I was committed to destroying the Pop Lock in order to remove it, I had no idea how hard it would be, even though it was not locked and I could lift the handle to make it easier. I suppose anyone can break into anything, especially if they don't mind doing a lot of damage to the tailgate, but with the Pop Lock it won't be by lifting the handle, ever! Incidentally, Pop Lock makes a chrome version now, which looks really good if you have a chrome handle. Same easy installation and same toughness."

"I found the installation challanging at times, but overall very simple. The instructions that came with the lock for my 1999 Mazda B-3000, were clear as far as what needed to be done, However, the only problem I encounterd was after installation, my tailgate would not lock. After almost taking it out and sending it back, I simply reajusted my rod ends where they connect to the scisser bracket, problem solved. The cam follower on the bolt assembly could be a bit longer to engage properly."

"I purchased the lock for my 2004 Dodge Ram. I found it easy to install and has a very nice original look to it. However, I had to return this item. The lock was hard to operate. It took me several tries to get it to lock and many more to unlock. I though perhaps I had installed it incorrectly but after I uninstalled it I found it imposssible it operate. I have asked for a replacement since I consider the defect to be an inspection error. If the second one is also bad I will request a full refund."
