Get-up & go!,August 23, 2009
By mleefrom Nevada, IA
Pros: Improved acceleration, impressive sound Cons: Alot of plastic for the price
"Installed this on my '07 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7L Quad cab a month or so ago and wanted to give it some time before reviewing. Acceleration has improved noticeably, no improvement in throttle response because of the fly-by-wire system which I hate. Mileage has improved by about 2 mpg if I can keep my foot out of it! Sounds like the old days of flipping over the breather cover and hearing the 4 barrel moan x10, it turns heads! The K&N along with the Heart Throb dual exhaust has given me more power to pull the camper and it sounds great, now maybe some E3 plugs?"

good addition,February 12, 2009
By Roxxannefrom Topeka, KS
Pros: more power, better gas milage Cons: too pricey seems opportunistic
"Overall a good additon. I saw an immediate boost in throttle response and power. I also gained about 1.5 miles per gallon. Easy to install, plus it looks alot cooler than the stock unit.
P.S. Don't forget the service kit..."

Pros: Good quality kit moderate mileage increase Cons: Limited brake line clearance.
"I got this kit for my 96 Mazda Miata. Good quality kit but according to the K&N website it was designed for a RHD car there is very limited clearance between the air filter and one of the brake lines from the master cylinder. More intake noise than stock but moderate power amd mileage increase. Will work with judicious bending of the AFM mounting bracket."

06 Xterra Likes it,October 30, 2008
By Erock247from Lancaster, Massachusetts
Pros: Sound, looks, performance, Gas mileage- in that order Cons: none
"Got his installed with only the tools listed on the box in about 40 minutes, and I am no mechanic. Some tin snips would be helpful to trim the gasket of the air box that separates the engine compartment. I immediately noticed the better look of the engine compartment, and when I started the Xterra and hit the gas the gulp of air it took in was incredible. The motor sounds better and throttle response is quicker. The computer is calculating a 1.2 mpg increase over the first tank of gas, and when you hit 4500 rpm it sounds like a monster in the 4.0 liter V6. I has been said before, But I will reiterate, the fuel savings could be quickly negated by the urge to romp on the accelerator after it is installed."

Great Sound,August 21, 2008
By arcticplasma
Pros: Sounds great accelerating, looks cool, mild increase in gas milage Cons: Filter cone is hard to attach securely to the rest of the unit
"I bought this for a Mazda B3000. It was fairly easy to install. The mileage increase was about 1.7 mpg more than before. I didn't notice a significant performance increase. The mileage and performance increases may have been better if I was upgrading completely from stock, but the friction head in the system had already been reduced by a Gibson cat-back exhaust that I had installed a year ago, so it may require more to get the same performance increase. The sound is definitely nice and much louder than before. Even though the mileage increase wasn't as good as I had anticipated, 1.7 mpg is better than nothing, so I'd still buy it again."

Excellent product,August 14, 2008
By sgt1230from Central Wisconsin
Pros: Sound and power increase Cons: Installing the rubber edging is difficult
"I have previously owned a K&N kit for my Kawasaki motorcycle and was very happy with it. I am also extremely pleased with this kit for my truck. I installed it on my 2001 Silverado HD2500 with the 8.1 Vortec and it sounds really neat. Noticeable seat of the pants feel in acceleration and performance gains. Highly recommend this product."

Great Product!,July 6, 2008
By Anonymous
"I bought this product for my Chevrolet Silverado 2001. It was a piece of cake to install and looks great. Took me about an hour or so to get the old intake out and put this one in. It sounds great and you can definately feel the added acceleration and overall horsepower. I would definately recommend this product to anyone looking to add a few extra horses to their truck and in the process increase their gas mileage."

good,June 26, 2008

"I purchased the performance kit to improve mileage on our service truck. It was easy to install but it was not the same as viewed in the picture. It has improved gas milage on the 460 motor by about 1 mpg in the month we have had it on. My Son who is the primary driver loves the way it sounds when he accelarates so it might be a wash when it comes to mpg."

easier said then done,June 26, 2008
By lefty5558from mountian home, id.
Pros: good pictures with instructions Cons: no real mpg savings
"i received this fed-x in 2 boxes, looked easy, (being a woman) i figured i could do it without a mans help, WRONG.. removing the original air-intake box takes a lot of strength and leverage, other wise i did it all by my-self. the one thing i did learn is that before you connect the air-intake tube to your throttle body is to clean it with a spray cleaner real good to remove dirt and gunk before your done. this was other wise a very easy thing to do and needed minimal tools."

2003 Ford Explorer,April 4, 2008
By Wardfrom Dallas, TX
Pros: Much better throttle response. Cons: None that I can think of.
"I have a 4.0 liter engine and it was running fine, but I knew it could do better. I added a K&N air filter in my factory air box and a performance muffler, and it worked quite well. I decided to upgrade to this performance kit for more performance and to help with the gas mileage. This upgrade was a noticeable improvement over what I had and worth the money I spent. In fact, the roll-on acceleration and the full throttle acceleration is so much better that I’m probably going to add tuned exhaust headers for the maximum horsepower and mileage increase since I plan on keeping my vehicle for many more years."

Intake upgrade for 1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT,February 22, 2008
By MatrixX
"Overall I'm pleased with my K&N Intake. It looks great, sounds great. Install was simple and straight forward. I estimate it would have been about a 20 min installation if all had gone smoothly. I had to fight with the old rusted air box bolts and then discovered that my car (not the new intake kit) was missing the gasket between the Mass Airflow Sensor and the air box. I was unable to purchase a new one and had to fabricate a completely new gasket out of off-the-shelf gasket material. After those obstacles were out of the way, the rest went quickly. It was harder to remove the OEM parts than to install the new ones. Fit was perfect and parts were high quality. (Word to the wise, however, make sure you have an Allen wrench set handy before you begin the swap! For some reason I couldn't find one anywhere. Big time wasting mistake.) I was disappointed to find out that my kit only included the filter and mounting brackets. No air hose or other parts! I haven't noticed a big difference in power. Along with a couple of other light engine modifications the car does seem more responsive. I estimate a 3-5 hp gain from the filter. On the positive side, however, fuel mileage has certainly improved (sorry, haven't had a chance to calculate exact numbers). Now, if only I could find a way to uproot my right foot, which always seems to be buried deep in the accelerator..."

Pros: Horsepower gain and forever lasting air filter Cons: Installing
"I got this product for my 94' firebird. Installation instructions are clear but putting the filter on is harder than it seems. Ive seen this product on trucks which makes the installation easier because you dont have to get under the car. Other than that it is a good product."

Love it, but...,December 14, 2007
By Mooneyfrom Patriots Nation, MA
Pros: Great sound and higher top-end power Cons: Won't work with a throttle body spacer (in my application)
"Just (finally) got this for my 1998 Chevy K1500 (305 cid) and so far, I love it. The FIPK has added the unique sound of a high flow intake, and added to my existing exhaust makes the truck get up and move (for a full size ext. cab w/ toolbox and cap, any help is big help :) )
The added power for the mid and top end shows a signifigant improvement in the amount of hustle my truck has (and makes it easy to spin the tires clean of mud and snow); and my fuel mileage hasn't gone down (should go UP once I stop having too much fun with the go pedal).
The only issue that I found was that I had to remove my existing throttle body spacer to clear the intake tube, as the tube was in the way of the hood. This may not be an issue for all GM models, as my intake comes in the top (conventional style), and yours may differ. I had asked K&N customer service whether it would work or not, and all they did was refer me to the directions, which, while concise, did not include any measurements.
I prefer the feel and sound of the FIPK to the spacer though, and I am looking forward to the added power when I pull my camper around this coming spring."

K&N Kit,September 8, 2007
By beemer
Pros: Easy to put on. More MPG and power. Cons: Did not come as shown in catalog. No airbox.
"I put this on my 91 Ford F150 with a 5.0 engin. I also put on a throtlebody spacer. These two together made a big differance in MPG and power. Two to three more MPG. I then put on Gibson headers and a new high flow cat with flowmaster exaust, that gave me three more MPG. For the money I think you cant do any better."

WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!,April 30, 2007
By grynkfrom Southern New Jersey
"I own a 2005 Jeep Wrangler X and everytime I would get the JCWhitney catalog, I would stare longingly at the K&N generation II fuel injection performance kit. I don't know why but I put off buying until now. I got my kit this weekend and it was incredibly easy to install with easy to understand instructions and good pictures to go along with it. After installing it, I could hear the difference. Then when I got out onto the road, I could feel the difference. Accelaration got better and now my Jeep cruises at a lower rpm. I love this product and as a matter of fact, I told my buddy who also owns a Jeep to get one immediately. Thanks JCWhitney and thanks K&N."

Feel the Ponies,April 20, 2007
By Rogainefrom Alaska
"I just installed this system on my 2005 Wranger X, I really noticed an increase in power in gears 3-5 while operating in the mid to upper RPM's. The engine howles like a pack of wolfs. Hard to improve gas mileage while stomping on the throttle.
Very easy to install and the fit was perfect. Living in Alaska with roads that wind through mountains, the increase in power was more than I expected.
Well worth the money."

very surprised,March 1, 2007
By chambersfrom Hampton, VA
"I bought this kit for my 93 bronco. I heard good things about the k and n products and I decided to get this kit. I expected to see a change in my truck's performance, but once I tested it I was completely surprised. I did not expect such a dramatic increase in horsepower. I am very, very surprised and pleased with this product and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Plus, it is very easy to install. It took me less than an hour from start to drive."
