You Get what you pay for.,February 23, 2009

Pros: Major parts are alluminum, rest is plastic, tie downs are a plus. Cons: predrilled holes don't line up well.
"I got the 36" wide rack for my Honda Civic and it was still too wide for the roof. I was able to trim off about an inch from each crossbar to make the width fit well. The roof rails have no curve at all so you have to bend it to fit the roof shape which is easy if you're handy. I think the adehesive seal on the bottom should be rubber. The foam seal will hold moisture not seal it out. This rack and some custom trimming and bending make for a nice application. You need to have some skills to have it turn out nice. I carry two 10ft Kayaks on "J" racks and it works great. (about 85 lbs) For 100 bucks you can't beat this. If you have no hands on skills you're better off having someone else install it. The alluminum parts are painted black. So if you scratch them you can touch up with black paint. I didn't like the self seal on the screws so I cleaned them and used black RTV sealant at each hole prior to final install. (assemble wet) The crossbars are very tight in the track. The slide locks are nice. The tie downs are a nice add on. Only four stars becuase it required modification to fit proper and predrilled holes didn't line up."

"I installed one of these on my '92 Cherokee. It wasn't as difficult as I expected! The hardest parts of the installation were CENTERING the rack on the roof and NOT drilling through the headliner inside. (This is why the manufacturer recommended a Drill Stop.) It came with 8 PREDRILLED holes in the rails, but 12 Self-Sealing screws. For added strength, I drilled the extra holes in the rack and roof, and used all 12 screws. The only problem I encountered during installation was that the predrilled holes to join the side rails to the crossbars had burrs that wouldn't allow the crossbars to fit properly. A little clean up with a file solved this problem, however. It is utter simplicity to use this rack. The crossbars have lever activated locking features that allow either front or rear rail to adjust forward and back, and adjustable tie-down loops I am VERY pleased with this product."

"I have a 2006 Nissan Sentra which is used in my business. For the past year, I have been setting up a temporary roof rack whenever I needed to take my 6' ladder to a job. I finally decided that what I really needed was a permanent roof rack. With the help of the people that I had selected for the professional installation, the 36" x 36" model was ordered. It has been installed and has had my ladder ready for any job that I need it at. I would highly recommend this roof rack to anyone who is struggling with installing a temporary rack for your car carrying needs."
