Pros: Well packaged, simple instructions, Bolted up in about 20 minuts. Easy fit. Cons: Would have liked to have a bit heavier walls on the tubing.
"This product was an easy fit-up. The biggest trouble was removing the protective wrap. The package arrived in tact and contents in good condition. It took all of 20 minutes to install. Great product."

If you have a 02-05 Ford Explorer,
June 11, 2009
By BMMBfrom Myrtle Beach, SC
Pros: Look great, quality parts Cons: For Ford Explorer, see below...
"I purchased these for my 2003 Ford Explorer. Although they look great and the parts (i.e. brackets, etc..) seem like quality and sturdy parts.... I would not recommend these nerf bars for a 2002-2005 Ford Explorer.
First reason, they hug way too tight to the side of the rocker panels, can barely even notice they are there if you get black powder coat.
Secondly, initial installation (and after speaking to Bully technical support) I realized that you had to goto a local hardware store and get a bunch of washers to bring the brackets low enough to where the tubes would actually fit without rubbing the side of the door (and preventing the door from even opening)
Secondly... installation on your Ford Explorer will be a total hassle! Although they're pre drilled holes for everything, it barely lines up perfectly and it literally took hours to bend, tweak and turn everything perfectly for them to finally fit.
I was not satisifed with the final look, as they hug the side of the vehicle, almost underneath, and decided to change it all around and drill my own holes so that they would stick out like normal nerf bars do."

By tiletekfrom San Mateo, CA.
Pros: Easy install Cons: Hopefully none in the future
"After going to OSH to get 2 missing bolts, took about 30 min. to install solo on my '08 Silverado crew cab.Piece of cake to install. Had a few scuffs, but it's minor. Gonna get scratched sooner or later. Note that there IS a difference from driver and passenger sides (center bolt placement)Bully Bar"

Looks Great, But Horrible Installation,
March 24, 2009
By PDavisfrom Tulsa, Ok
Pros: Look great, seems sturdy. Cons: Installation was much more difficult than instructions implied.
"My main complaint with these is that the installation required the use of air-tools and a considerable amount of grinding, neither of which were mentioned in the instructions. While it may be different for other vehicles, on my 2003 Silverado we had to make a small hole in the frame considerably bigger so the steel support would fit inside. This step alone took longer than most people claim to have installed both steps. However once that part was done they went together very easily."

Pros: Functional and Cool Cons: lowers clearance
"I bought this for a 2005 Dadge Ram. The instructions said 3/4 inch bolt heads but you'll need an 18mm socket to appropriatelty torque them. Brackets are not left/ right. you have to expect mirror image underneath."

Moderately Satisfied,
December 21, 2008
By Unsurefrom KANSAS
Pros: Easy Install Cons: Quality not so great
"I got these for my 2004 Chevy Silverado. I got the black powder coat ones. I got the steps out and flipped the driver side step over and there was some rust that had bubbled the paint. I touched it and the paint flaked off. I decided to just spot paint it with spray paint because it was on the back side underneath where you can't see it. I just hope the rust issue isn't going to be a problem later. The install went pretty good except that it is freezing in my garage. The passenger side step is perfectly fine. I should have sent it back and got a replacement but didn't want to mess with it."

Pros: Easy to install (once they send you ALL the instructions) and look great Cons: Company only bothered to send written instructions/no illustrations
"I received the step rails and tried to install them on the weekend. The written instructions refer you to look at the illustrations for further details. I didn't get any illustrations. Tried calling Pilot automotive (maker) and naturally they are closed on weekends. Finally got the illustrations faxed to me later in the week and learned the problems I was having is because there was an extra set of brackets included in the box that were not needed/used. Once I had all the instructions, it was only about a 45 minute job to install both sides. Beautiful looking and very functional helping my wife get into the truck."

Pros: Bolts on Quick and Easy, looks great! Cons: 2 person job for easist install. Pictures could of been better.
"My son and I installed the set in about 30 minutes. I was prepared for a 2 hour job but by the time we were done it had only been 30 minutes. I kept thinking we must have missed something because that was way too easy. But sure enough we were done and the bars look great! My wife uses them whenever she rides with me and always makes it a point to show how easy it is to get in the truck now."

Pros: Steps are very sturdy and function well. Can't beat the price. Cons: Instructions could be better.
"I installed the steps on my 2008 Silverado STD cab. The kit included all the necessary hardware & bolted up without any drilling or modification to the frame. All I needed was a ratchet and some metric sockets to do the install."

Pros: Looks and works great on my truck Cons: N/A
"I ordered these bars for the appearence and price. I was a little concerned based on some of the reviews however they fit my 2008 Ford F-150 like they were factory installed. The fit is perfect and they were easy to put on the truck...my brother and I did it in about an hour.
We had no problem with the instructions and everything needed was included. And once in place and all parts tightened it was easy to see they are very sturdy. These are an outstanding set of bars for the price and work as well as they look. You will not be disapointed."

Pros: Looks Great Cons: Wrong Mounting Parts
"I knew there would be a problem when I read the directions and then looked under my 2006 Ram 2500 QC. No rubber bushings; just the reubber coated steel boss and saddle...Uh Oh. Anyhow, the mounting brackets don't account for the size of the body mount washer (which is not removable from the bolt).
OK, now the good news - Called JC Whitney and they gave me the manufacturer number, option # to hit and part number. Sure enough, there was an error. JC Whitney just sent me new parts free of charge.
Fantastic customer service! I was ready for a fight but ended relieved and happy."
