2008 Silverado Regular Cab,

Pros: Cheap and look good
Cons: Instructions were poor/wrong, missing bolts, parts didn't fit
"I bought these for my truck. I spent over an hour trying to assemble the odd socket size mentioned in the instructions and trying to figure out how to install a bar in the frame without drilling. I ended up calling the company, and they said that I didn't need the bar or extra support. They said that was really overkill unless you were doing a four door install. They did not know why the socket and bolt sizes were off. They did not know why they sent the wrong bolts in the package. After discarding the "extra parts" and buying the right bolts, it only took about 20 minutes to bolt on. Although the company did agree that there were problems, they did not offer to help with the additional costs.
I think that there should be a difference in the Whitney ads between "guaranteed fit" and "it should work if you monkey with it".
I think the tubes are too thin for heavy usage. The paint job is less than right - it looks like they were wrapped in plastic before the paint was completly cured."

Pros: Well packaged, simple instructions, Bolted up in about 20 minuts. Easy fit.
Cons: Would have liked to have a bit heavier walls on the tubing.
"This product was an easy fit-up. The biggest trouble was removing the protective wrap. The package arrived in tact and contents in good condition. It took all of 20 minutes to install. Great product."

If you have a 02-05 Ford Explorer,

Pros: Look great, quality parts
Cons: For Ford Explorer, see below...
"I purchased these for my 2003 Ford Explorer. Although they look great and the parts (i.e. brackets, etc..) seem like quality and sturdy parts.... I would not recommend these nerf bars for a 2002-2005 Ford Explorer.
First reason, they hug way too tight to the side of the rocker panels, can barely even notice they are there if you get black powder coat.
Secondly, initial installation (and after speaking to Bully technical support) I realized that you had to goto a local hardware store and get a bunch of washers to bring the brackets low enough to where the tubes would actually fit without rubbing the side of the door (and preventing the door from even opening)
Secondly... installation on your Ford Explorer will be a total hassle! Although they're pre drilled holes for everything, it barely lines up perfectly and it literally took hours to bend, tweak and turn everything perfectly for them to finally fit.
I was not satisifed with the final look, as they hug the side of the vehicle, almost underneath, and decided to change it all around and drill my own holes so that they would stick out like normal nerf bars do."

Pros: Easy install
Cons: Hopefully none in the future
"After going to OSH to get 2 missing bolts, took about 30 min. to install solo on my '08 Silverado crew cab.Piece of cake to install. Had a few scuffs, but it's minor. Gonna get scratched sooner or later. Note that there IS a difference from driver and passenger sides (center bolt placement)Bully Bar"

Looks Great, But Horrible Installation,
March 24, 2009
By PDavis

Pros: Look great, seems sturdy.
Cons: Installation was much more difficult than instructions implied.
"My main complaint with these is that the installation required the use of air-tools and a considerable amount of grinding, neither of which were mentioned in the instructions. While it may be different for other vehicles, on my 2003 Silverado we had to make a small hole in the frame considerably bigger so the steel support would fit inside. This step alone took longer than most people claim to have installed both steps. However once that part was done they went together very easily."

Pros: Functional and Cool
Cons: lowers clearance
"I bought this for a 2005 Dadge Ram. The instructions said 3/4 inch bolt heads but you'll need an 18mm socket to appropriatelty torque them. Brackets are not left/ right. you have to expect mirror image underneath."

Pros: Easy Install
Cons: Quality not so great
"I got these for my 2004 Chevy Silverado. I got the black powder coat ones. I got the steps out and flipped the driver side step over and there was some rust that had bubbled the paint. I touched it and the paint flaked off. I decided to just spot paint it with spray paint because it was on the back side underneath where you can't see it. I just hope the rust issue isn't going to be a problem later. The install went pretty good except that it is freezing in my garage. The passenger side step is perfectly fine. I should have sent it back and got a replacement but didn't want to mess with it."
