"I returned the matte black trunk because my 2XL HJC helmet would not fit (couldn't close lid). The glossy trunk is slighlty taller (1/2"), wider and longer than the matte black trunk but the real advantage is the improved mounting plate which has rubber vibration dampeners as well as a foam backing for the whole plate. The cross is still there but as long as you remove it as soon as you receive the trunk you should have no trouble getting it off. There is a circle depression that you could fill with something else.
The glossy trunk also has a real cushion for the back rest where the matte black one only has hard plastic. I think these small improvements is well worth the extra cost of this slightly larger trunk. Even the shipping box was of a higher quality than the matte black trunk.
Unfortunately, my laptop bag does NOT fit in either the med matte or the gloss black trunk although the laptop iteself would fit with no trouble. Now I need to decide if I will buy a backpack ($$$) or a slim case for my laptop for the commute to work. My 2XL helmt just fits and I am able to lock the lid so it's good enough for me.
you will need a 12mm and a 14mm wrench to install. Although lock washers are included, I used loctite blue on the threads instead of trying to overtorque the nuts and deform the mounting plate.
the rubber dampeners make the trunk hard to engage to the plate, but this means it will be more secure and have reduced vibration if I can get my laptop in there.
well worth the extra cost (and I had to pay to return the other trunk)"

Good with a draw-back,June 5, 2009
By BlackVulcanfrom Lawton OK
Pros: This trunk was easy as pie to install, took all of 15 minutes. It holds more than I imaged. Cons: The clamp or latch does not stay closed, a bump in the road with unlatch it.
"This trunk was easy as pie to install, took all of 15 minutes. It holds more than I imaged. I wear a shell helmet so it holds that plus a small bag. For those quick stop at the grocery store or another store will hold a bag of groceries easily. Or if you need to go to the gym will hold you gym bag and a pair of shoes and more. Can't really tell you how impressed I was with the storage space. Looks good on the bike. I also like the big single reflector on the back of the trunk, actully look like a light, but just a reflector. The only problem is with the latch, not a good looking system, once latched, if you hit a hard bump it comes unlatched or if you stand behind it and smack down on the top of it it unlatches. The good thing is if it does come unlatched while driving it behind you so it does not pop open or anything it's just not locked down. I have to try and make a fix for that, eventhough I don't think it will be a problem I feel more comfortable with it locked down, when I am parked it shouldn't be a problem unless someone really wants in and knows about the pounding on the top, in any trunk if someone wants in, they will find a way. Overall it's good for the money. Didn't like the cross on the top, easily peels off. I think I will buy some regtangled reflectors and stick around the side. I happy with it."

Great Product,October 16, 2008
By stikmanfrom Orlando, FL
Pros: Great value, plenty of space, mounting bracket very secure Cons: backrest a little small but works
"This is one of the best purchases for my bike. I have an FZ1 and this is the only way my wife will keep riding with me; having a secure backrest on the back. This trunk has plenty of space and secures to the bike with a heavy duty latch. I've used this quite a bit on long and short trips and I haven't had any problems with the latch or hinges. Great trunk for a fraction of the cost of the Italian models. I'm very pleased with my purchase."

Pros: Looks good. Adds much needed space for storage. Cons: Lid support snapped off the first day. Lid latch is very flimsy.
"I installed this trunk on my 2008 Yamaha Zuma. I didn't have a lot of trouble installing it once I figured out how to match the holes in the bracket to the rack. But I was very disappointed in the fact the the plastic support straps snapped off and I thought the whole lid was going to come off. Fortunately it didn't but I have to be ultra-careful opening it so as not to damage the hinge. The lock seems flimsy but so far it has held so we'll see how that goes. Appearance wise, I have no complaints. It looks good and provides a good back-support for a passenger."

Pros: Nice appearance, easy to mount Cons: Won't stay on the mounting bracket
"I recently installed this trunk on my wife's 2004 Honda Sabre. The trunk looks great, but the mounting bracket needs work. During our first ride, the trunk popped off the bracket while going down a paved road. On the positive side, while it got scratched up, it did not open nor were the contents damaged (jacket). I am disappointed though that the trunk now has road rash and my wife is not sure it will stay on in the future."

"This is a very nice travel trunk for the cost. Unfortunately, whomever packed the trunk failed to try to mate it to the mounting bracket. There was no possible way the two were going to fit. I had to use a dremel to remove about 1/16" of plastic from one edge of the square hole in the bottom of the trunk to make room for the metal catch from the mounting plate. With that change, the trunk works like a champ.
It would be nice if the assembly line that packs the materials ensured the product worked prior to shipment..."

"I bought this trunk for my son's Honda Rebel. It is a nice looking trunk. I came with a metal base mount instead of the plastic one shown in the photo. The trunk would not lock into the base with maximum effort. I even tried to spread the catch slot, but this did not work either. Once the base was installed, the trunk had to be bolted to the base. This was fine with me, since it will be more secure than just locking it to the base. I would recommend this item, but be prepared to modify the installation."

"I bought this product with no knowledge that it had an Iron Cross logo. That information was omitted from the product description on the web page, but included when I got the order confirmation. This is not a logo I wish to have associated with me or anything I own. The low appearance rating is due to the logo, otherwise I would give it three stars.
As far as the product goes it meets my expectations. The backrest seems to be a little cheap, and will probably be the second thing to come off (after the Iron Cross). It does have a place to add some brake/running lights which is a bonus (also not described in the on-line catalog description.
If the product holds up to being used as a back rest I'll be happy."
