Over all happy, December 29, 2008
By Ram1500srt10 from North Carolina

Pros: Looks great,
Cons: Hard to get adjusted properly

"I have been looking for quite a while for a bed cover that would work with the tail wing on the SRT-10 Dodge Ram. The problem is that the wing is very low and most of the covers require that there be at least 4 or 5 inches of clearance for the operation of the cover. and I did not want a soft cover. I purchased this one based on one of the other reviews here on this product. Over all I am very pleased with my purchase. The cover looks great, and operates well, once properly adjusted, It is just the look that I was looking for. I installed the cover with smooth brushed aluminum bed caps the caps match well with the factory rims on the truck. The instructions were complete and better than most. My son-in-law and myself worked on the installation for about 4 hours in all, it only took about 2 hours for the installation, and another 2 hours to get it adjusted properly. There were no real problems until we reinstalled the tail wing, the wing overlapped the rails by about 1/16 of an inch on each side, it made the wing very difficult to get back on. And once on, it forced the track rails of the cover down causing the cover to bind in the last 10 to 12 inches. Rather than modifying the rails or the wing I put a flat washer under the slide pin for the wing lifting it up a little. This allowed the rails to sit in their proper position. There was a gap between the wing and the bed that easy to fix by putting a piece of rubber between the wing and the bed creating a sort of gasket. Once carefully trimmed it looks like it belongs there. I would recommend this product, but be aware that the installation is not for a novice. It can take a lot of time to get it adjusted properly."

Not for beginners, July 1, 2008

Pros: Great looks, cargo security, fuel economy
Cons: Installation is a real bear. Not for the faint of heart.

"I installed this cover on my 2003 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab, and it looks fantastic. I carry my golf clubs, tools, etc in the bed with total confidence that they won't get stolen while I'm gone. Retractable tonneaus are the way to go, in my opinion; you get the truck bed flexibility of a soft top with the security and peace of mind of a hard top.
This thing would have gotten a five star rating overall, but the installation was a big headache, so the one-star rating there drags the overall down to a four. Honestly, I love this cover, and if I had it to do over again, I'd buy this again in a heartbeat. The only thing I would do differently is allot more time to the installation. It took me about five hours to get this job done, so it's not going to be something you want to get started on in the evening one day after work. The instructions are extremely poor, and serve only to point you in the right general direction. For my truck, I needed to use the included shims for the bed rails, because they're not perfectly straight--but I never found the "included" shims and had to make my own. Irritating. But making the shims was fairly straightforward, as is the installation in general. If the cover had fit my truck like it was supposed to, I do believe that it could have been accomplished in an hour or so. The long leg of the whole process was all the modification that was required. On the other hand, I have pretty limited tools available, so it may go faster if you've got a better equipped shop.
The repairs that I required were a notch cut into the bracket that holds the canister at the front of the bed, because the rails were about 3/8" too long to allow the tonneau to catch the safety latch. This led to some other various notches which needed to be cut, but on the bright side, all the extra engineering I did was accomplished with a drill, Dremel tool, and a 67-piece mechanic's tool kit, so it's not like you need a fully-tooled machine shop to get this thing on and looking good...but it would help!
The bottom line is: I would recommend this to a friend, as long as that friend was mechanically inclined and enjoyed these sorts of problem-solving challenges. The installation is fairly straighforward, as long as it fits your truck correctly, which from reading the other reviews, I wouldn't count on. However, even if you have to modify the thing, it's not too bad of a job, just time consuming if you don't have the right tools. If you like challenges and have a Saturday to eat up working on your truck, this cover is for you. It looks great when it's done, it's secure, and the silver lining of the installation is that once it's on, you'll feel like you really accomplished something. Be patient, think things through, take your time and you'll have an extremely valuable and handsome addition to your truck. Good luck!

Pros: Great look, fuel savings, security, excellent quality
Cons: challenging installation

"I installed the Bak Rollbak on my 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 long bed. The directions included are sketchy at best. You will need some innate mechanical (engineering) ability to complete the installation succesfully. If you can install and adjust a roll up door, you'll be able to install the Bak Rollbak. Once installed, it looks and works great. I installed mine over diamond plate rails. It's raining lightly today, and no water has gotten in yet. I do expect some water to enter the bed of my truck, after all, it's a truck, not a boat. Total installation time for me was 2 to 3 hours, not included the remote entry pop and lock. If you like and installation challenge, a great look plus 11% fuel savings, BUY IT. you won't be disappointed."

Nice look - always leaks, July 1, 2007

"Looks pretty good but installation was beyond "beginner". Had to cut rails so they'd fit my '05 Nissan Frontier (they were about .25" too long). Granted, I purchased mine right after they came out for my truck so hopefully the manufacturer has corrected this.
Always leaks on the sides. Does not allow water to directly leak on cargo in the middle, but water rolls around and under the edges of the cover and into the bed. Also, if the rain is heavy, the water overpowers the inside rails and overflows into the bed (again, only along the edges). When we travel, we have to put stuff in plastic containers or plastic bags to assure they stay dry.

"Although a bit difficult to install, the manufacturer's help line is excellent. This looks so great that it is worth the little bit of installation difficulty. Installation definitely takes some time, but you will do a better job as a novice than the pros would because it's your truck and you care about it, they don't. Top quality materials and construction. Beautiful and totally flush when complete (except for the cannister cover up front that is raised about 1/2 inch). A huge difference in wind resistance. I installed it on a 2005 RAM SRT-10 Viper Quad Cab and it still allowed use of the factory spoiler and stake hole pockets."
