Questionable Instructions,
June 1, 2009
By 06WhiteTJfrom Conover, NC
Pros: Looks good, cheap Cons: bad instructions, time consuming, improper hardware.
"With all the reviews talking about missing hardware that I have read, I would think that it would be fixed. Also, 20 cents for a set of color instructions i think are greatly needed. Also, pictures that show the proper installation of the rear track bar and what holes to enlarge. As long as you can critically think and visuallize, you can install this kit with the help of 2 friends and tall jack stands. You also need a pickle fork to remove the ball joints on the front sway bar. Those took the longest ever. You will also need to relocate your brake lines when you are completed as well as bend the 4wd bracket in the tranmission tunnel in order for proper clearance. One last thing, my stick hit on the interior console in 4 gear and will not allow shift into reverse need modifications. Have fun!"

Pros: The kit is a great kit for the money. Gave me the looks that I wanted on wifes jeep and she loves it. Cons: hardware was a problem had to change out about 1/3 of it because wouldn't work.
"Overall the kit is a great kit. I think the hardware should be changed out in it for future sales."

Pros: Price, well-made
"This kit is a great deal when you consider the components included and the price of comparable kits. Installed by myself on my TJ in around 12 hours with basic tools, pitman arm puller and spring compressor. It takes more time to remove the old stuff than install the kit. I don't know how they sell it this cheap, the springs and control arms are heavy-duty. The only problem I had with the install was two grease fittings breaking when screwing them into the control arms. They are a little soft, but cheap to replace. I think its worth it to also purchase the adjustable front tracbar (<$100) ."

Pros: Easy to intall, Competative price Cons: Vague instructions, and cheap grease zerks
"All in all this was a great lift for the money, the installation was easy and there was very little drilling. The instructions were very vague, but you could go to the Rough Country website to print out a better looking set in color. Also the grease zerks broke when I was trying to grease the front lower control arms, which wasn't that big of a deal because the grease zerks can be found at a local auto parts store for about $2.00 for a pack but it was still frustrating to have to replace new parts. I recomend this lift kit for its ease of installation, quality level and price."

"This is a very good lift kit for the price. It had all of the features that I was looking for except for front sway bar quick dissconnects, but I can buy them later. The lift looks good on the jeep and bolted up nicely. I could go on about how good it is, but I am going to list its flaws because that is what will really help people out who read this.
Flaws: This kit isn't a 100% no drill kit. 3 holes had to be drilled for installation. 1 for the front trac bar bracket and 2 for the rear trac bar bracket.
Installation instructions for decent and easy to follow, but could have been a little more detailed in places and would have made for a much quicker install.
The 4" inch lift actually lifted my front 4.5" and the rear 5.25". Being over 4" isn't that big of a deal, but with the rear sitting higher than the front is. I haven't even got my winch on yet and that will squat my front even more. I am going to have to go with some adjustable spacers if the rear coils don't settle.
The kit came to me missing one of the front sway bar connections. Also, the last step of the install, I went to put on the transfer case lowering kit and one of the rails were the wrong size. I ordered this kit on the 13th, got it on the 24th and am still waiting to get the sway bar connection and the right transfer case arm on the 30th. That is very irritating.
The grease zerks were very cheap and 2 broke screwing them in because the control arms were painted over the threads and each hole had to be tapped out prior to installing the fittings.
Also had to buy a few bolts and nuts because the ones they sent with the kit either didn't fit or weren't any good.
I know this kit seems to contain a lot of negative, but I really like this kit and would order it again. In fact I ordered another Rough Country kit for my 88 YJ. This kit was for my 97 TJ."

"Overall great kit...but I have some concerns with the one that I installed. 1.Transfer drop kit was not the correct one for my vehicle...I had to modify by drilling new holes in drop bracket so it would line up. 2.Bolts that were with kit caused me a big problem..Kit contained course treaded bolts....zert nuts on frame were fine tread. This caused them to brake loose.I had to buy 25.00 $ worth of new bolts+ washers and lock washers to complete the project.Yes this is a great kit..and it is less expensive than most..but at 900.00$you would think that the drop kit problem I mentioned would of never happened. Some drilling was required in one of the stock control arms, this was done after installing the new drop bracket ,the new bolt was larger than the new bracket and the end of the stock arm.My thoughts were why not just send the right size bolt for the new drop bracket and stock arm. After a front end allignment the kit looks really good..handlering has changed just alittle..sterring to the right seems to be slow and less responsive. What was a help was reading other reviews prior to my install. Also my kit did not include new brake line extensions, but had qiuck disconnects...? instructions said as long as you do not disconnect new brake lines would not be needed..? why else would one install the new disconnects if they would not use them...The install was about 10 hours..I am off to Moab soon and hope the new kit hold s up."

"This was my first suspension work and it turned out great. There were a few bumps in the instructions but nothing the JEEP manual couldn't solve. All hardware was supplied, however, the instructions were sometimes vague about which parts go where. This is a very noticeable lift and I'm still grinning from sitting in it for the first time!!!!"

"installation was a little sketchy, but the overall product and end result was worth it. the rear sway links didn't have hardware to attach them, but I was thinking of eliminating it, and things are fine without it. no more rubbing!!!! decent kit for not alot of green."

"It is a great lift for the money. It was more of a pain disassembling to get the old parts out then the new parts going in. The suspension lift is a little stiffer then stock, but still cruises down the road."

"I FOUND THIS TO BE A VERY GOOD PRODUCT AND VERY EASY TO INSTALL. MY 2002 JEEP WRANGLER TURNED OUT GREAT AND IT IS UNREAL THE WAY IT WILL TWIST UP. THIS PRODUCT HAS NOW BEEN TESTED BY ME AT TELICO AND PASSED WITH FLYING COLORS."
