Customer Reviews for POLLAK 7-WAY RV OEM SOCKET

Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5
fits 1999 Silverado, April 28, 2009
By stillsteamn from Minnesota

"My original socket hung below the receiver hitch on a steel tab. I hate that arrangement. After years of abuse from hitting rocks and being drug in the dirt on steep creek crossings the old socket was smashed and steel tab mangled. I broke off the steel tab, plugged in this new socket and zip-tied it up and out of the way. Plugged right in and works great."

2008 VW Touareg 2 w/ Pollak socket for trailer electrical

Pros: Sweet - 100% bolt on functionality
Cons: Requires an additional adapter for 4-pin trailer electrical

"As is my way, I looked at a variety of sockets for trailer electrical. The best information I received was from Pollak Manufacturing; I spoke to Steve in Tech Support - 781-830-0340. He recommended their 7-Way USCAR Socket - Manuf Partno: 11-893 as being a direct fit, both electrically (attaching to the VW OEM trailer electrical socket) and mechanically (4-screws to remove access plate, 4-screws to attach socket).
The process is: Identify access plate (left of hitch receiver), to take out the 4 screws holding the access plate, detach plate from electrical socket, plug in the Pollak socket, place the socket into the hole (revealed by removing the access plate), attach socket with the 4 screws (the same ones that held the access plate).
Since my trailer has a 4-pin electrical connector, I also purchased a Pollak "ZX333046-7 WAY RV TO 4 WAY FLAT ADAPTOR". This connector actually locks into the Pollak socket!
The process took 5 minutes and my trailer lights worked (and continue to work) immediately.
By the way, I've seen this very socket for sale for as much as $40; don't buy it. Pollak is the manufacturer for a whole variety of other companies.

Pros: price, no tools

"I own a 2004 Nissan Titan 4x4 w/off road & towing package. The original socket was mounted next to the hitch on a steel bracket. The original socket was smashed when I backed into a hill, but the wiring was still good. I unplugged the socket and pounded the bracket back to it's original shape as best I could. This new plug fit perfect!"
