Pros: Solid, heavy metal construction, set screw to lock to filter.
Cons: Could be a bit deeper/longer to cover more filters.
"I am adding a spin-on oil filter adapter to my 1979 Honda CB750K motorcycle, and I will be using a Wal-Mart brand, SuperTech ST7317 filter, which is rated above average in quality, and costs less than $3 each. The filter will be positioned directly behind the front wheel, and it will take rock impacts frequently. I wanted some extra insurance that the rocks would never puncture the metal filter casing (oil would pour down in front of my rear tire...), so I needed a filter cover that would protect my oh-so-small filter.
The thickness of the cover is roughly 1.5 mm. The depth is roughly 6.85 cm, and of course, the inner diameter is 2.595 inches, or roughly 6.5 cm.
I contacted JCW's Tech. Support, and they told me the filter was the right diameter, but they said it relied on a snug fit to attach to the Yamaha filter. Undaunted, I took the plunge, and ordered one. To my pleasant surprise, it came with a 2mm set-screw, which secures it to the filter! My filter will have just over 1/2" of exposed side, but any rocks that hit this exposed metal on the filter, will be at such a shallow angle, that they will bounce off without much impact -- they won't be able to dent, let alone puncture, the filter's housing.
The ball milled housing is nice looking, but I bought mine to absorb all the punishing rock hits my front tire can dish out. I expect my chrome cover will be sporting war wounds very soon, but that is better than me, and my bike, falling at highway speeds!
Thanks, JC Whitney! Once again, you come through with a part I could find elsewhere, but at a higher price. Shipping, from the factory, was amazingly fast, as well: ordered Sunday afternoon, delivered the following Wednesday, from Illinois to Minnesota. Cheers!"
