Pros: perfect fit-- check gas cap lite stayed off--prompt delivery

"The gas cap performed as advertised in the J C Whitney flier.
Ford didn't have a locking gas cap for my 2008 ranger pick-up. The parts man at Ford warned me that after market caps could cause a warning light to come on. The cap I purchased from J C Whitney fits perfectly and the warning light never came on. As an added plus I was able to install the original retaining strap on the new cap."

Pros: Easy to use. 1/4 turn and it comes off for fueling, then you can lock it and when your done fueling just put it back on.
Cons: It's light weight and feels lighter than OEM gas cap.

"I had a check engine light come on shortly after my warranty ran out on my van. Had light checked at an auto parts store and it turned up as an "emissions system failure (small leak detected)". So I went to the dealership I bought the van at and they told me I had a fuel vapor return line vacuum leak. I needed the rear axil removed and the fuel tank would have to be removed to check the lines attached to the fuel tank, at a cost of $800 labor + parts.
I did not have that kind of money to spend and ask if it would disable the van, they said no, so I left paying only $90 for the diagnostics testing from the dealership.
I returned to the auto parts store with my horror story. A mechanic from a competitive dealership was there and he said "oh yeah, thats just a way to rake the customers. the actual fix is to replace the gas cap and retest the vacuum on the system, about 99% of the time it is fixed because the seal on the gas cap gets weathered and looses its seal. Then you charge for R&R the gas tank and all you do is replace the fuel cap."
So I bought this gas cap. The cost at the auto parts store was more than double JCW, so I waited the 4 days for it to arrive. replaced the gas cap and went to the auto parts store where we pulled the code up again and cleared it.
The check engine light has not come back on yet, 6 months latter."
